28th June 2012 Storm Reports
What a mad day for the weather! London is basking in sunshine - many people on the social media sites are saying how much they're enjoying sunbatheing - however for the majority of the country "up north" from the Big Smoke have been having a mad day of heavy rain, flash flooding, hail, high winds and tornadoes... and to think it's only the afternoon.
So far there's been reports of a tornado in Newtown Linford and a lot of damage to homes and cars from huge hail across many Midland counties. The storm is travelling across the country in a North-Easterly direction, and doesn't really seem to be calming down. Various other reports of tornadoes have been made in Hinckley, Coven and Loughborough.
The A38(M) Aston Expressway that links the M6 with Birmingham and the Redditch Ringway have been closed due to flooding and a collapsed wall at the latter. A high school in Rubery has been closed, along with two primary schools near Bridgnorth and Ludlow because of flooding. In Coventry, Tesco was evactuated after water started coming through the roof. In Nuneaton a wildlife centre had to move animals and birds after having six inches of floodwater and across my county of Coventry and Warwickshire there's been reports of hailstones big as ice cubes.
So far the flooding has claimed the life of a male in Shropshire. Police in many counties are also advising drivers to only make trips if they are essential.
